Captain JoshUA Haury :  Josh has worked with the Ursa Major since 2000 and performed every possible duty aboard Ursa and similar  boats including of steward, chef, and kayak master, mechanic, tour guide and trainer for trawler purchasers........all with his indomitable smile and enthusiasm.  Josh has earned his wings in over seven years at sea including two years apprenticeship as First Mate/Captain in training aboard the Ursa in all points between Alaska and Mexico.   Josh has his Coast Guard 100 Ton and STCW certification for international waters and safety at sea.   Captain Josh is guiding our guests in both Alaska and Baja and sharing with them these marvelous cruising grounds with his infectious laugh.   Josh's hand on the camera, the helm, or the shrimp and crab pot line is equally as talented.    Almost nothing delights our guests more than "smoozin' with Josh" in the wheelhouse, on the aft deck or sun deck, at dinner or checking out the local harbors where he is known and loved.     Come enjoy the friendship and the stories with a crew not dressed in servant whites aboard your own customized cruise  but instead make these the new friends you find in Alaska and in the Sea of Cortez.   Come off the beaten path to see and experience these cruising grounds aboard a well founded true trawler yacht......do your first trip with us in these remarkable waters and begin to plan for your own boat and  future cruising dreams.     Josh has his eye on some premium dive sites in the Sea of Cortez in Baja Mexico for his time off and is working on his cold water diving in Alaska this year with local dive masters. 

Captain Josh is assisted in Alaska by First Mate, Fish and Kayak master Captain Garth McPhie (100 T Coast Guard licensed) and his wife Jodie McPhie as chef.  Both have worked on boats and as world class ski instructors in New Zealand, Colorado and Alaska.    They know and    love and live in the  THE REAL ALASKA.    Garth and Jody call Girdwood Alaska near Mt. Alyeska their home and their athleticism and joy in sharing Alaska with you will make them long term fast friends.
